Green Building

Kermit the Frog was wrong. Being green is easy.

At Heritage Log Homes, “going green” isn’t just a buzzword. We were doing the eco-friendly thing long before the concept ever found its way into water-cooler conversation. It’s a philosophy that’s been ingrained in our operations for more than 30 years, from timber selection to the way we dry our logs and design our log homes.

We’re also a designated ENERGY STAR partner, which means we are committed to promoting energy-efficient products and practices that not only save homeowners money but help protect the environment.

For us, every day is Earth Day.

Consider this:

• Logs & Timbers are not only the original renewable resource, it’s one of the most energy-efficient building materials you can use. Because of each log’s natural density, it takes longer for temperatures outside a log home to affect the temperature inside, resulting in less use of heating and cooling units and lower energy bills. That built-in Thermal Mass effect can make a log home as much as 30 percent more energy efficient than a comparably sized stick-built or brick home.*

• Our milling facility is computer controlled, so all operations are run with precision to guarantee maximum energy efficiency. Plus, our wood-seasoning process is all-natural which means there are no fossil fuels used and no emissions from burning saw dust. There is no waste, our saw dust and wood chips go to animal bedding. To learn more about this process visit our Seasoning section.

• Our log design and assembly methods are energy-wise. Logs are seated on top of each other with 2 sealed tongue-and-groove fittings and coupled at corners with our patented interlocking double tongue-and-groove saddle-notch joints. Then our patented Thru-Bolt fastening system automatically keeps wall segments fitting tightly throughout the life of your home vitually eliminating air infiltration and conserving energy.

* According to a 28-week study conducted by the National Bureau of Standards and the U.S. Department of Energy.
